Meet Maya Thorne
Welcome to Homoraa. I’m Maya Thorne, an interior stylist who believes a home should feel like an exhale. Not perfect. Not staged. Just deeply yours.
I’ve spent 10+ years helping people blend the beauty of old things with the clean ease of modern living, in real homes with real routines. I love a flea market find with a little patina, a simple sofa that lets the room breathe, and color that makes a space feel settled the moment you walk in.

How I Got Here
My design story started in visual merchandising for a boutique home goods brand. It was the best kind of education: learning how the eye moves, why certain shapes feel calming, how lighting changes everything, and how a single well-placed object can make a space feel intentional.
Eventually, I traded store displays for real homes and real life. Residential styling taught me what I still believe is the most important design truth: people do not live in showrooms. We live in rooms where backpacks land, laundry piles up, friends gather, and hard days need softness. My job is to help you design for that reality, while still making it beautiful.
What I Believe
I focus on three things: color theory, small-space optimization, and slow decorating. Underneath all of it is a simple idea: our environments shape how we feel. A room can either nag at you or nourish you. Homoraa is where we choose nourishment.
Color that feels supportive
Color is personal, and it is powerful. I like helping readers choose shades that do more than “match.” The right warm white can feel softer in a small room. A muted green can read grounding for many people. A terracotta accent can bring life into a neutral space without yelling for attention.
If you want a simple starting point, try a three-part palette: a warm white base, one muted midtone (like sage or dusty blue), and one earthy accent (like terracotta or caramel leather).
Small spaces deserve big care
Not everyone has a sprawling living room or a separate dining room. I specialize in making tight layouts work harder and feel better. Think: creating zones with rugs, choosing pieces with legs to keep the floor visually open, and using lighting layers to add depth without adding clutter.
One of my favorite quick fixes is a “float and clear” reset: pull the sofa a few inches off the wall, swap a bulky coffee table for an airy one, and add a plug-in sconce or floor lamp so the room is not relying on one overhead light.
Slow decorating over instant makeovers
Slow decorating means building a home’s character over time instead of buying everything in one weekend. It is the antidote to trend whiplash and the quickest path to a space that looks like you.
My simple framework is: start with layout, then layer in light, then add texture. After that, let the room choose its finishing pieces naturally, one thoughtful find at a time.

Why Homoraa Exists
Homoraa was created to make good design feel more doable. I want you to feel confident making choices without a luxury budget, without a design degree, and without feeling like you have to copy a catalog.
Here, we mix high and low on purpose. A secondhand side table can live happily beside a new sofa. A flea market vase can be the most expensive-looking thing in the room. The goal is achievable elegance: comfortable, lived-in, and quietly stylish.
You will also see a steady thread of reuse and secondhand sourcing here, not as a perfectionist rule, but as a practical way to save money, reduce waste, and bring soul into a space.
What to Expect
If you’re wondering what Homoraa actually looks like in practice, here’s the rhythm:
- Step-by-step styling help for shelves, coffee tables, beds, consoles, and awkward corners
- Real-world color guidance, including how to choose undertones and build a palette that flows room to room
- Small-space strategies that make your home feel more open and more functional without major renovations
- Vintage and modern mixing tips, so your home feels collected, not chaotic
- Budget-friendly upgrades that actually move the needle, like better lighting, hardware swaps, and textile layering
Most importantly, you can expect design advice that respects your life. Kids, pets, rentals, roommates, tight budgets, changing tastes. We design with all of it in mind.
If you’re new here and want a place to begin, start with a small win: pick one room, clear one surface, and choose one “anchor” (a rug, a paint color, or a piece of art) to guide everything that comes next.

In One Sentence
Start with what you have, choose one clear direction, and build slowly with pieces that make you feel something.
If your home feels unfinished right now, you are not behind. You are in the middle of becoming. That is where the best rooms are made.
